The Regional Office came to Asheville NC to put on an event to assist Veterans with claims, education, healthcare and other things.

Rachel Robert's did a phenomenal job assisting my dad with getting his claims updated while adding new claims. She asked me how my claims process was going since I recently retired. She reviews my claims and helped to push them along to the next step.

We then met with 2 members from the VA hospital in Asheville that finished enrolling my dad in the VA healthcare system. He wasn't fully enrolled from 2 yrs ago. He now has a new patient appointment.

It was Veterans serving Veterans. This was needed after all the destruction and turmoil in Western NC.

A huge thank you to the Winston-Salem VA office for putting on this event.

Veterans, pray to God you never have a claim assigned to this jurisdiction. They will not even review your files properly before denying your claim without any valid reason. It’s disheartening to see such a lack of care and respect for those who have served. Be aware there also appears to be racial bias in the way claims are handled. This office does not seem to prioritize the needs of veterans

I would give them a zero if possible. Spoke with Derek Randel about a disability claim and was verbally accosted on the phone. He was the absolute rudest person I’ve ever spoken with. If you get connected to Derek hang up and try again. He is the reason veterans don’t seek help or get deterred to work with the VA. He is everything wrong with the VA and the military. He continues to be apart of the problem and not the solution.

I have checked over and over repeatedly to be told my claims application was still in the processing stage. I previously filed January 2023. This is the end of March 2024. I did everything I was instructed to do to make sure everything was complete for the goal to be achieved. I was a records specialist in the Army and know darn well it is ridiculous to leave paperwork pending for that long. I asked once when I called, why it was delayed so long. The response was... 'Some take longer to process than others.' What a lame excuse. NO! The real answer is that some of our claims are just neglected and not given the attention that is required. This is not at all good service displayed by those that say they are doing great service for us. Just downright, SHAMEFUL. Records Department, my comrads and I gave great service, is it so hard to give back?

Update: I got called two days after my scheduled call while I was at work. Said I cannot talk, the lady acted like it’s my ,fault and she got annoyed with me but she did offer to schedule ANOTHER “appointment”. Cut to “scheduled” date/time (with an hour after leeway), guess who did not receive a call
I’m so glad you get to hide behind anonymity there because it no longer is your failing as an individual, I wish I got a sweet gig like that. Lie to people, not do anything, but still collect those sweet, sweet federal benefits

Can we add a negative scale?

I have spent hours on hold, been hung up on multiple times, not had my questions answered or concerns heard, let alone addressed. Do you get paid to do these things? I thought you did, but I guess you just get to take the money without doing the job. To care for him who shall have borne the battle
 right

You are responsible and have allegedly committed yourselves to serving veterans. This community has one of the highest suicide rates in the country and this is how you keep your promise? It’s no wonder so many feel hopeless and quit even attempting to get anything resolved or any help from you. You should be ashamed of yourselves and the efforts you put in. You hide behind automated systems, refusing to actually speak to those “you serve”. I look forward to scheduling yet another appointment and not getting called.

The VA motto should be "delay, deny, until they all die". Maybe my Camp Lejeune disability claim is there as well, because since the NWQ was introduced, it is impossible to find out the status or even which RO is handling my claim. Outrageous!

Here are some pictures, taken by the VA Inspector General, of VA claims files sitting in the Winston-Salem Regional Office. A national disgrace!

VA Telephone assistance is getting worse and the websites are
terrible. The login pages are not responsive.
